[I HOPE SOMEONE CONVEYS THIS MESSAGE TO AN INTELLIGENT POLITICIAN IF SUCH A PERSON EXISTS.]

Why not? ALL Politicians USE their brain to fill their pockets. If there is a possibility of filling their pockets with these projects, they will ALL be interested! Otherwise, not a chance.

Government sector corruptions are the worst next to LTTE destruction of the country.

Gasoline prices did not increase yet. It will be doubled by next year or so.

    That is the prediction.

Agreed ! Corruption in Sri Lanka is worse than LTTE atrocities.

As appeared in a world bank report, well some time back, in some African states, about 60% of the value of a project goes into pockets of politicians. Now Sri Lanka must have passed that limit too. They have developed the Socialism to effectively creep into all development projects. Mihinair is the latest. Ceylon Administrative Service has been effectively destroyed in order for the politicians take over the management of the country.

Sri Lanka must be the only country, where day to day management of the country, is by politicians and their families and supporters.

SOCIALISM HAS EFFECTIVELY DESTROYED THE COUNTRY THAT WAS ABOVE SINGAPORE ETC. NOW OUR POLITICIANS ARE ATTEMPTING TO OVERTAKE COUNTRIES LIKE CONGO, UGANDA ETC.

On going war is not a big barrier to develop the country. When Vietnam was fighting agianst the US troops development process of Vietnam did not stop. But in Sri Lanka major barriers are corruptions, malpractices, govenment excpenses and maintaining a jumbo cabinet. These ministers (all MPs) ruin the tax payers money for their own benefits. Person like Mervyn Silva, who is a notorious thug and drug trafficer, is also getting more than 20 military and police officers for his security. LTTE want waste a bullet to kill this notorious drug trafficer but still GOSL thinks he should be provided with scourt. If the govt can provide benefit for only needy ministers we can use that money for the development of the country

Corruption in the Eastern P. election...

It was in the international news that a `son of a govt. Minister who was involved in a night club brawl was responsible for stuffing ballot boxes in the recently held Eastern Provincial election. `

I wonder who this Minister is.. ??? It cannot be Mervyn Silva because he is a GENTLEMAN and the PRIDE of the President.

    [

President Mahinda Rajapaksa is reported to have presented a Cabinet proposal seeking to reduce government expenditure by 25 per cent. We give him only one and a half cheers! ]

The president can save billi000000000000000000ns if he can stop the war that he re-started on December 1 2005 by rearming EPDP and bribed them to kill Tamil youths in Jaffna. Later he conformed that he abrogated the CFA - that is declared war on LTTE.

This war is wasteful, destructive and criminal because bombing the Northern Province or part of it kills people and destroy the infrastructure and the livelihood of the people.

The war is the most wasteful action that not only destroys Tamil areas but make the entire people poor and thereby make them suffer.

I agree that politician waste people`s money. But, according to my experience each time politician misuses public funds government servant(of course who are in top ) pointing at the politician surreptitiously misuse an equal amount. During my career as a government servant I can pin point several instants the policy decisions taken to reduce corruptions was unheard by the government servants. It only worked during the Premadsasa`s time. Because he know very well about the pubic servant behaviour.

Indian politics changed with Dr. Manmohan Singh who worked in many government capacities before he became the PM. Our Premadasa was perhaps the only leader in SL who knew about how the government servants worked and most of all various living conditions of every walks of life.

    Sintamus,

Agree with what you have said about the war in the north.

From the school days, I know the background of this war. Very foundation of the Nation, was shattered by the short sighted policies of the power hungry political leaders. I have seen when innocent Tamil citizens living in Colombo area, were beaten up, properties were burnt etc.

No `government` should do or encourage to do `Tit for Tat` by any party. Governments must maintain law and order and uphold freedom.

Instead our politicians should have developed the country.

They have no long term plans. Only plan is how to make quick money !!

It seems, the president is about to take `steps to tackle` the energy crisis... by reducing the number of school days to 4, hold import of cars etc for one year, and beat this dead line by importing 8 luxury Mercedes Benz cars to politicos etc. These are the kind of things done in the past by selfish politicians in SL.

Instead they should look for long term energy solutions because Crude oil cost is not going to decline for the simple reason Crude oil is not a renewable source of energy...... days are numbered.

Ethanol, Solar and wind power, hydro-electricity etc. are the only known renewable energy sources right now.

SLG government should sell all govt. corporations (white elephants!) to private sector, collect the taxes when those institutions are making profits and get the much needed cash and invest in Education,Health & Security and the promotion of private sector enterprises for the production of renewable energy, and food. Govt. must not run any other business because all successive govt. in SL and in other countries such as Russia, China, India, North Korea ..have failed miserably.
