Lankan News Replies

Adding a comical twist to the Eastern PC polls, a 17-year-old school girl in Ampara received an official telegram summoning her to attend a seminar organised to educate Senior Presiding Officers of the area.

Jeevani Kalyani a resident of Weeragoda, received this official telegram requesting her attendance at a seminar to be held on April 29 at 10 a.m. at the Ampara District Office. It was sent by the Returning Officer of the district.

The intended participants of the seminar were 27 Senior Presiding Officers from the Digamadulla area who were to be in charge of the Eastern polls.

The panic stricken parents rushed to the office of the Assistant Election Commissioner Lakshmendra Damayantha Kumara Tennakoon, who later admitted that the erroneous telegram was due to a mix-up by postal authorities.

Mr. Tennakoon also said a teacher in Panama had received an erroneous telegram stating the date of the seminar as April 27, two days prior to the actual date, causing much inconvenience.

The Regional Postmaster General has promised to carry out an investigation on what led to this comical mix-up.

Teenagers for election duty

If they can handle the bullet why can't they handle the ballet?

If LTTE can conscript children for terrorism why can't call Teenagers for election duties if they are capable of doing it.

Adding a comical twist to the Eastern PC polls, a 17-year-old school girl in Ampara received an official telegram summoning her to attend a seminar organised to educate Senior Presiding Officers of the area.

Pillaiyan shot and killed a teacher for refusing to stand in the local election. This telegraphic summon is from a govt agency, the president has the absolute power to hire and fire not only the Heads of Airlines but also election officials and other Heads. That's why he has not set up the Constitutional Council.

Educating the youth who had only known violence all their lives.

A good move & could be a fair observer & could earn some pocket money.

This must be encouraged more in future as well.
Good move if serious... They are the future.....
