This is the western culture. Children move out and live independently when they reach 18 years. No family bond. In such a society, obviously elders are not taken care of. It mostly depends on the upbringing of the children. If you bring up your children teaching them proper ethics and respect for elders, they will take care of you when you become old.

    Sidharth,

Precisely! I was about to say the very same thing.

    Totally wrong sidharth.

    That is the gene.

Parental love is what you inherit from the birth. No matter how some are brought up they discard, ill treat and dehumanize their parents if it is a wrong gene!

In many occasions it were the children who brought up with proper ethics and discipline ill treated their parents.

Anyone thinks MR could be charged under this law (after he leave office, of course) since he has snubbed CBK on several occasions?

One of my grandmother was treated very poorly in Lanka, it happened in late 90`s, she had wealth but one of her close relative convinced her to transfer her assets to him and he would look after but as soon as the ink dried on the transfer paper he and his family abandoned her.

She depended for cooked food from other relatives and that wasn`t a daily thing, rest of the days she had only powder milk.

Her soul left her mortal body in 2001.

There are worse cases in Japan.Cildren kill their own parents and this has been happening for quite some time.

Like sidharth stated there is no family contact most of

the time even when they are at home. This is due to working

parents who spend a very little time with their children.

The society is to be blamed. If the parents don`t work they can`t survive. This is not only in Sri Lanka, but all over

the world. We should give some very serious thought to these problems and find a way solve it instead of fining or jailing them. The Govt. is causing most of these problems due ever rising the cost of living.

What a humane society in Sri Lanka. By the way I know a Sri Lankan gentleman of 72 years of age who immigrated to the west with his family as pensioner now recovering from a partial stroke get home care three meal`s a day. Flat he lives in specially modified by the tax payer so he can be comfortable he get a pension from the tax payer around Rs 18000/= week he get rent, phone, electricity bill and medication subsidy.Guess he should go back to Sri Lanka to this wonderful caring and humane society so he can get away from heartless West.
