Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga has thrown in her lot with the National Congress to take on the Government. She is expected to take the stage to campaign for the Congress formed by UNP led by Ranil Wickremesinghe and the SLFP breakaway group led by Mangala Samaraweera, UNP parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake told The Island yesterday (30).
Talks between Kumaratunga and Opposition Leader Wickremesinghe on Wednesday (29) had been successful and will continue, he said.
The problems faced by the country and the government were on the agenda of the talks. They discussed how best the Congress would face the present issues and strategies to be adopted in their campaign against the Government, he said.
Karunanayake said a massive campaign against the government will be launched by the Congress and Kumaratunga would take the stage at an `opportune time`.
Former President Kumaratunga`s office yesterday said Wickremesinghe had called on Mrs. Kumaratunga and they discussed the present situation in the country, especially the economic and development problems and human rights issues.
