Amnesty has placed an ``Urgent Action`` tag on the case of two Tamils and a Sinhalese extradited to Sri Lanka from Thailand on August 14 who were arrested on arrival and remain in CID custody.
The three suspects, Sujith Gunapala, Sasikaran Thevarajah and Satyaphavan Aseervatham had sought asylum in Thailand which was denied. They were arrested on arrival here and were in ``grave danger of torture,`` Amnesty said.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) had turned down their appeal for asylum and they are believed to have LTTE links as they had served prison terms in Thailand for illegally possessing firearms.
Amnesty said that the men were at present being held incommunicado and called for appeals on their behalf to the IGP and Defence Secretary with copies to the Minister of Disaster Management and Human Rights and the Sri Lanka Ambassador to the US.
