Remanded for blocking First Lady`s convoy
Tuesday, 31 July 2007 - 6:34 AM SL Time

The Colombo Magistrate yesterday remanded two persons till August 3 for allegedly blocking the way of the vehicle of First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa last week.

The two suspects, a lorry driver and his assistant from Haputale who were arrested for allegedly blocking the convoy carrying Mrs. Rajapaksa at Thunmulla were produced by Cinnamon Gardens police.

Sendan Wijekumar and Ramaiya Surendran were arrested by the Presidential Security Division (PSD) and were handed over to the police. The bomb squad carried out a thorough search on the lorry and released it to its registered owner. Police said investigations were being conducted to ascertain whether the road was blocked to carry out any crime and asked that the suspects be remanded. Additional Magistrate Kavindra Nanayakkara postponed the case for August 3.

MR and his family are now paranoid as the people are getting to know how crook, cunning, double standard, low class, traitors they are, particularly after the revealations by Mangala/Sripathy.

The details are not clear. Did the lorry actually blocked the convoy on a free way?

There was another 1st lady of this sort in yesteryears eating humble pie now.

Please first ladies be careful - You have to return the laundry on the due date and thereafter you will be on the mat.

Hats off to Madam JRJ - the humble woman who did not us her position for any show off.

Fully agreed. This is madness at its best. Politicians and thier high profile wives shold stay away from busy roads during rush hours.
SL is fast becoming a police state with all the attention given to protect the king's family and brothers.

This is a sort of thughry that our politicians of all colours give out to the man in the street. This is the rights violations that the IC is talking about.Good natured citizens who cares about the country and it's people must put their heads above politics, make note of this and lobby their respective politicians.People seems to have humbled themselves to accept such treatment and the police and the courts haven't got the courage to stand up to the rights of it's citizens.Politicians of honour must respect it's citizens, shouldn't use emergency and security as an excuse to do what ever they want.

The law should be impartial to all citizens irrespectively there social states. In England many times royalties have been fined due to errand driving.
I hope the Judge should remand all drivers and cleaners who blocks the roads before delivering their judgments. Otherwise the people will lose the faith with the justice system in Sri Lanka.
