Civil administration will be speedily established in the East and the citizens franchise rights will be restored, SLFP Senior Deputy President Nimal Siripala de Silva told a media conference yesterday.
`The Government will not allow the LTTE to rob the Eastern residents` rights,` Minister De Silva stressed.
Once civil administration is established no groups other than the Armed Forces and Police will be able to remain armed, he added.
Detailing the future plans to win the people`s hearts and minds, including all communities of Eastern Province De Silva said that the Government has made master plan to uplift the living pattern of people.
`The Local Authorities of the Eastern Province should be re-established. There will be no provisions to call new nominations without cancelling the previous nomination list once called.
Therefore a decision was taken by the last cabinet to amend the Local Government ordinance for required cancelation of the nominations. Fresh nominations will be called.`
He said that after the Local Government elections are held the implementation of infrastructure development projects will be continued.
Security arrangements of the Eastern Province will be tightened, he said. De Silva said that the National Convention of the SLFP will be held on July 21.
The first rally will be held at Nawalapitiya.
`We will start our campaign against all attempts to mislead the public,` he stressed.
He said there would be no room for a split in the SLFP due to the Mangala-Sripathy factor.
