All private bus owners have been warned that they would be fined Rs. 1,000 per day if they fail to operate their buses from today till April 18, except for two days.
The National Transport Commission has made it mandatory for all private buses to continue operating without interruption except during the New Year celebrations on April 13 and 14.
A Commission spokesman said that a fine of Rs. 1000 per day would be levied on buses which failed to operate during the prescribed period.
The source said that special bus services will be arrange from today (9) from the pettah bus terminal to all main cities and towns throughout the country to facilitate people going home for to celebrate the New Year.
He said that some buses operating in Colombo and suburbs have been enlisted for the special services.
Meanwhile, the CTB and Sri Lanka Railway is also expected to operate special services during the New Year season.
