LTTE will be finished off - Army

The LTTE will be finished off from the ground before it comes by air,the army said on Thursday.
Army spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe addressing journalists at the cabinet press briefing said that there was no need to worry about the LTTE`s so called air power, since it will be finished off at ground level.`We will finish off the LTTE from the ground before it comes by air.`
His comments came after Air force spokesman Group Captain Ajantha Cooray said that the Air Force was doing all in its power to defend the country against LTTE attacks.
Asked about an unpacked light aircraft belonging to a former Air Force pilot that has been taken into Air Force custody,Cooray said it had beeen done as a precautionary measure.
The former pilot who was also an instructor had obtained government clearance to import the light aircraft.
`There is nothing illegal about the aircraft being brought into the country.But in the present circumstances it would be in everyones interest that it is kept in our custody.`
The aircraft cannot get into LTTE hands when it is with the Air Force,he added.

They have already come by air all the way from Vanni, bombed the K'nayaka air base and gone back unscathed back to where they came from. They certainly do not seem to be finished.

| Sri lanka being a tiny island,SL forces should be able to contain and terminate this insurgency with the backing of it's people and it's leaders; would be advisable for the tigers to get involved in politics and seek a settlement short of a separate state,before any victory to the gosl forces that would enhance the forces of stupid nationalists.Tamils can't have a monopoly on the problems an average person encountering in SL.These problems are common to everyone,not only to Tamils.We must be united as one people and solve these problems to gether or the end result will be another Talaban state in the making in SL.So the armforces winning the battle is not the end of our problems,but they must eradicate terrorism which has taken the form of a fake liberation by a bunch of pirates and smugglers who has taken the just cause of the Tamils and others who are suffering in that island. |
