President Mahinda Rajapakse yesterday blasted the Ports Ministry Secretary and Treasury Secretary for delaying to send documents pertaining to the proposed Hambantota harbour, political sources said yesterday
Sources told The Island that President was furious when he learnt that relevant documents with regard to the Hambantota port had been delayed on a number of occasions and no attempt had been made to send the documents to China.
He said that the delay may be due to international pressures on Sri Lankan officials to sideline the Hambantota project.
The Island learns that President is keen to proceed with the project and forthcoming visit he would discuss this with the higher officials in China during his forthcoming.
Informed sources said that countries like Singapore and India do not want to see the Hambantota project coming up because on completion more than 600 ships will stop in Sri Lanka. Thus, India and Singapore the lose heavily.
