Everytime the LTTE retreated in defeat after counter attacks by the Armed Forces, it has called for a ceasefire, Government defence spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said yesterday (25).
He said the LTTE had shown its hand and the government will not be deceived by its ploys anymore. If at all any future talks were to be held with the LTTE it would have to be without any preconditions.
The terrorists had killed Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim politicians, who stood for democracy and a political solution to the problems of the Tamils of the North and East. Tamil politicians who they believed were overtaking them were simply assassinated. The LTTE suppressed all dissent among the Tamil people as they wanted to be the sole rulers of the Tamil people, he said.
The LTTE has lost quite a number of its cadres and lesser leaders in their recent attacks on Government positions and had suffered both loss of men and war material.
They were asking for ceasefire to regroup and smuggle in arms and ammunition under a ceasefire as they did four years back, he said.
The government had vital information of the LTTE`s moves now and was not prepared to change its stance at this stage he added.
