T. M. Sangadasa, UNP`s Colombo Municipal Counsellor, has written to IGP Chandra Fernando that if an investigation was launched into the activities of UNP MP Mohamed Maroof, it would reveal that he had not only fraudulently sold galvanised sheets granted by the Indian government for the poor, but would also reveal other corrupt activities.
The Municipal Councillor in his letter to the IGP has stated that if the CID were to question a party activist, one C. V. Pusphanathan of No. C-2/4, Housing Scheme at St. James` Street, Mattakkuliya, many more corrupt acts would come to light.
He stated that MP Mahroof had got Pushapanathan as an area organizer of the UNP to dispose of the galvanised sheets donated by the Indian government in June 2004 by selling them to one Manoharan from Wattala.
The MP has also got the `Not For Sale` seal on the galvanised sheets erased at the time it was sold.
Subsequently Wattala crime OIC had received information of such a sale of galvanised sheets and arrested the suspects and produced them before court.
He added that many corrupt activities of the UNP MP would come to light if only Pushapanathan was questioned by the CID.
