After weeks of a countrywide search police detectives yesterday arrested four suspects in connection with the robbery of Deputy Indian High Commissioner`s Toyota Prado jeep last month at Warakapola. CCD Senior Superintendent Sarath Lugoda said a police team led by Crimes OIC Nuwan Wedasinghe raided a house at Mirigama and arrested the suspects known to be residents of the area.
The police recovered the number plates and the walkie-talkie that were removed from the vehicle and they believe the vehicle might have been smuggled into a un cleared area in the north.
Investigations have revealed that the suspects were responsible for several other vehicle robberies and meanwhile a police team has been dispatched to the north to conduct further inquiries.
The suspects are to be produced in court.
