'LF accuses leading left party of Sivaram killing

The New Left Front (NLF) yesterday accused a leading left party of killing Darmaretnam Sivaram, who was the editor of the Tamilnet and a Columnist of the Daily Mirror.
NLF Deputy Leader Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratne addressing the May Day rally at Price Park, Gunasinghapura said that their prime suspect is this leftist political party. Dr. Karunaratne challenged a leading member of this party on one of his recent statements.
`This left leader has said that he will take to courts any body who accuses his party of killing Sivaram. I accuse your party, so take me to courts if you can` he said.
NLF Leader Vasudeva Nanayakkara said that yesterday was a historic May Day. This year`s May Day saw the beginning of a new mission to safeguard democracy in this country.
He said that there is a prime need for a political platform, which opposes globalisation, privatisation and communalism, the NLF has embarked on building that political platform. ` We will sacrifice our lives to safeguard democracy` he added.
Mr. Nanayakkara pointed out that NLF`s May Day Rally was different as it is the launching pad of the struggle to safeguard the freedom of the common masses. The UNP rally is aimed at seizing power while President Kumaratunga`s rally is one which is aimed at safeguarding power` he added.
He also accused the JVP of trying to destabilise the country calling them wolves in red clothing. He said that they will be the cause of the division of this country, if they continue to oppose federalism.

What a bankrupt bunch! They (Vasu-Bahu) are trying to get their names printed in the major newspapers for a while as they can't collect at least 50 supporters for a rally.
However, as Wimal said, if anyone is accusing him or his party would be taken to courts.
These two, however, according to this report, were not brave enough to name Wimal or the JVP, but said 'a leading left party and a leader' are responsible. This is just to sling mud on the JVP as they did their entire history of their politics. Anyone who knows about the 'law and the legal proceedings' that this statement can't be used against them, as they haven't mentioned the real name of the person or the party. This is only a mud slinging.
The JVP is not a bankrupt political party. It is the party for the future of Sri Lanka for all of us, irrespective of our ethnic, cultural or religious differences or beliefs.

Let us see waht the TULF leader has to say:
Leader of the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) V. Anandasangaree says the Tamil media in Sri Lanka should take responsibility for the death of D. Sivaram, editor of Tamilnet.Expressing his sympathies to Mr. Sivarams family, TULF leader said 'He was a good journalist and even good journalists have to meet with untimely and unfortunate deaths like this due to the follies of the Tamil media in Sri Lanka. Tamil media condemns certain actions while encouraging certain actions'.
Sangaree accused the Tamil media of encouraging certain killings. He said 'The Tamil media once questioned why i was being kept alive. Why should they give ideas to others? Did they condemn the abduction of the Police Inspector Jeyaratnam? What about the killings of other innocent people and other journalists?' he queried. He said the Tamil media must take a stand and that stand should be a right and a strong stand towards the betterment of the people.
The TULF leader said Tamil media openly supported the LTTE and went against the people who were against the LTTE. Sangaree urged the Tamil media not to carry misleading reports, distorted reports and not to avoid the truth. He pointed out by doing that they were getting so many people killed in the north and the east. 'It will be good for them to get together and condemn all killings'.

| Do you know guys there are certain people, when they have nothing else to do and they have everything to sustain, they think that they can come and do politics. Parties they form; you can have the total membership riding in two 3-wheelers. I was so surprised these two personalities are so blind not to comprehend the reality. I wish Vasu should go back and look after his business and Bahu may start doing his job in Engineering. I couldn't bear seeing such well to do men being political prostitutes. |

I saw the picture of Sivaram's body on the ground and his daughter crying beside him. It was so sad and cruel. First of all I was so shocked that people were allowed to a crime seen and be photographed. They should not have allowed the kids of Sivaram to see their father like that. As soon as the police found his body the area should have been cordoned ,his body covered to facilitate investigation not half heartedly as apparent. In time to come we will find out who killed Sivaram. By killing Sivaram what does Sinhalese gain? What Does GOSL gain ? What does JVP gain? NOTHING SINCE SIVARAM WAS NOT THE PERSON WHO HELD THE CARDS FOR UNITY,FEDERALISM OR ELAM . As Mahindapala said in his article this heinous crime was committed by the break away group of LTTE to send a message to Prabhakaran that there is an opposition among the Tamils. What we need to do is to condemn all these killings both LTTE and Karuna fraction and request Tamil Diaspora who support LTTE to force LTTE to make peace with other Tamil political parties who had opted to join main stream politics. What Anandasangaree says is not betrayal of Tamil aspirations.
Vasu and Wickramabahu are not corrupt politicians but they have a problem with flexibility and dialectics. They will continue to remind us about the exploitation of man by man.

Hmmmmm...... I am lost for words........
Whether Sinhala, Tamil or Muslim Human Rights Group, whoever is involved, you can distort information but you don't push a country to such degrading levels.
Is the cause much greater ?
Are these a norm of present day human morals ?
Don't such persons realise that they create something unwarranted but would not live to see the end to which they seek.
Geneva Conventions, Human Rights Conventions all these must be treated as mere scraps of paper.
To what level are those responsible taking this eelam war ?
Do we Sri Lankans whether it be from any community have the right to fight back against any country who treats us as thrash ?
The University of Moratuwa Researcher who was seeking a visa to France to attend a Research Conference in Spain on some Robotic Research was the latest casualty.
French had treated him with callous disregard & denied him the Visa after (06) visits.
Why on earth..... Why ? |

This is what I received from the EPDP news email:
Dharmaratnam Sivaram (aged 46) widely known as Taraki was abducted last night about 10.00 p.m. from Bambalapitiya. He was found dead in Kotte near a bridge leading to Parliament today morning.
He had been writing articles on military analysis for the English daily the Daily Mirror and also occasionally writes for the Tamil newspapers on security situation in the country. He had been writing in favour of the Vanni LTTE in the past but had recently written an article to a Tamil Newspaper strongly criticizing the Vanni LTTE. It is to be noted that Sivaram was serving as the editor of the pro LTTE website Tamilnet.
Does anyone know about the article Sivaram wrote strongly critizising the Vanni LTTE, as mentioned in the above EPDP news article?

| I think it was mistake,that wikramabahus mother put this name to him.I think it should be'sehenabahu'.vasu,bahu,victor iven,sunanda(durganda)and Uyangoda are enemies of singhala nation.They used red shirt only to tell ,that there are belongs to LEFT.this people destroy OLD LEFT completly.they are enemies of the LEFT.No body care what this dad bodys tell. |
