The JHU yesterday condemned the assassination of TNA MP Joseph Pararajasingham, alleging that it was an act by the LTTE to gain international sympathy by implicating the government.
Issuing a media communiqué, JHU General Secretary and MP Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha Thera said parliamentarian Joseph Pararajasingham raised his voice for the Tamil Tigers` separatist movement both locally and internationally by justifying its cause.
The Ven. Thera said the LTTE does not hesitate to resort to any brutal act to gain international recognition, and therefore this killing should be view in such context.
?The LTTE has been condemned by the international community due to its killing of security personnel. It has also been condemned by the international community after the killing of Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar.
It is not easy for the Tigers to rebuild their image under this situation. They have done this to build up their international image by implicating the government,? he stated.
Ven. Omalpe Sobitha Thera also stated that the LTTE had pointed the finger at the JHU as being behind this assassination.
?This accusation has been made for two reasons. One is to portray the incident in the European Union as part of the Buddhist-Christian conflict as Mr. Pararajasingham was killed during mass. The other is to create an atmosphere to kill JHU leaders too,? he said.
