A jailer was nabbed in the act of accepting a bribe by Bribery Commission officers at Borella yesterday.
A group of foreigners, visiting their friend, the British Paedophile suspect in the Remand Prison hospital had complained to the Bribery Commission that they were regularly being approached by prison officials who promised to help them provide the prisoner with all facilities, including a cellular phone, if they were paid for it.
One jailer had demanded a bribe of Rs. 20,000. The Bribery Commission had advised the group of visitors to comply with the demand at a fixed time yesterday morning at the Borella junction.
The tourist group had pretended to accede to the jailers demand and invited him to meet them at Borella to complete the transaction. The jailer, blissfully unaware that a trap had been set met the group at the Borella junction and was in the act of accepting the bribe when the Bribery Commission sleuths pounced on him.
Meanwhile, the three police officers who entered LTTE territory in search of the British Paedophile, are still languishing in a Tiger prison.
Prisons Commissionner Rumy Marzook said there were some bad eggs in the department and requested the public to assist in bring them to book.
