Court freezes properties and accounts worth Rs. 30 mln of suspected drug trafficker
A court has frozen assets valued at over Rs. 30 million linked to a suspected drug trafficker. These assets were bought using illegal money and include properties in Colombo 14 and Ja-Ela, land worth over Rs. 51.4 million, four shops, a three-story house, and six bank accounts holding Rs. 5.9 million. The Negombo and Colombo High Courts issued orders to freeze these assets under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Investigations into the suspect also uncovered a luxury three-story house in Wellampitiya, valued at Rs. 30 million, which is believed to have been bought with drug trafficking profits. An order to freeze this property has been placed for seven days starting from March 20. The Illegal Assets Investigation Division is continuing its inquiries.
