Admiral Steve “Web” Koehler, who leads the U.S. Pacific Fleet, will visit Sri Lanka from February 19 to February 21, 2026. His trip will involve meetings with officials from the Sri Lankan government and military to discuss how both nations can work together in areas like maritime security and regional stability. The U.S. Embassy in Colombo highlighted that the U.S. Pacific Fleet is the largest naval fleet in the world, operating globally to protect important sea routes and strengthen partnerships throughout the Indo-Pacific region. This will be Admiral Koehler's second visit to Sri Lanka, emphasizing the importance that the United States places on Sri Lanka's strategic position in global maritime trade. It also shows the U.S. commitment to a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific. His visit reinforces the strong security relationship between the U.S. and Sri Lanka, showcasing confidence in the skills and professionalism of Sri Lankan partners. The embassy noted that the U.S. stands with Sri Lanka as both nations face common security issues, from maritime awareness to tackling global threats. The aim is to create long-term, transparent security partnerships that respect sovereignty and support a free and open Indo-Pacific. Admiral Koehler has been a U.S. Navy aviator since 1989, with over 3,900 flight hours and 600 carrier landings. He has led various fighter squadrons and ships, including USS Bataan and USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, and has participated in significant military and humanitarian missions. In his career, he has also held key leadership positions, such as director of Fleet Training and operations director at U.S. Indo-Pacific Command.
