Minister Dr. Upali Pannilage has been chosen to join the Parliamentary Select Committee that will look into the release of 323 containers from the Colombo Port that did not undergo proper physical checks. Today, on the 18th, the Speaker of the House, Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, announced this appointment to Parliament. Dr. Pannilage, who serves as the Minister of Rural Development, Social Security, and Community Empowerment, fills the spot left by the resignation of MP Anura Karunathilaka. The committee's job is to investigate why these containers were released without the necessary inspections, to report on what happened, and to provide suggestions. The committee is led by Minister of Justice, Harshana Nanayakkara.
