Batticaloa recorded the highest rainfall of 128.9 mm yesterday, October 17, according to the Department of Meteorology. Nuwara Eliya reported the lowest temperature at 13.4°C. The Meteorology Department mentioned that a low-pressure system is still present over the central South Bay of Bengal, southeast of Sri Lanka. The public is advised to pay attention to upcoming weather forecasts and alerts from the Meteorology Department. Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the sea areas off the coast from Galle to Hambantota and extending to Trincomalee through Batticaloa. Other coastal areas around the island might see some showers or thundershowers in the evening or at night. Wind speeds could reach up to 50 km/h in the sea areas off the coast from Kalutara to Puttalam and Mannar, as well as from Matara to Hambantota and Pottuvil. The sea conditions in these areas may become rough at times, while other coastal regions will experience fairly rough seas. The Meteorology Department also warned that during thundershowers, strong gusty winds could occur, leading to very rough sea conditions temporarily.
