Two brothers have been taken into custody in connection with the shooting deaths of a lawyer and his wife in Akuregoda. They are set to appear in Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court today, October 17. CCTV footage, which has been shared with the media, shows the brothers allegedly giving firearms to the gunmen waiting near a supermarket in Akuregoda. In the video, one brother drives up in a car, takes a package from the vehicle, and hands it to the gunmen's car. After this, both brothers are seen leaving the area towards Hokandara, according to police reports. At the same time, the lawyer was also traveling on that road, and police indicated that the brothers had tipped off the gunmen about his route. Last Friday, October 13, the lawyer and his wife were shot and killed in the parking lot of a supermarket in Thalangama, Akuregoda. Following the tragic event, the Inspector General of Police ordered 12 police teams to start investigations. Initial investigations led to the arrest of the two brothers yesterday, October 16, in Kottawa by the Western Province South Crimes Range, as they were suspected of transporting the firearms used in the crime.
