A prominent Japanese delegation visited President Anura Kumara Dissanayake today (17) at the Presidential Secretariat. They talked about improving economic ties and moving forward with plans for a Sri Lanka–Japan export-industrial corridor. This meeting came after the President's official trip to Japan last September, where a Memorandum of Cooperation regarding the corridor was signed. The delegation's visit aimed to express gratitude for the invitation and to discuss arrangements related to this initiative. The proposed corridor is expected to draw Japanese manufacturing investments, mainly targeting export markets like India. The talks also revealed a renewed interest from the Japanese Government and business sector in Sri Lanka after almost ten years. There is hope that the corridor will bring significant economic advantages through exports and industrial trade, strengthening Sri Lanka’s position as a regional manufacturing and export center while deepening economic ties between the two nations. Key members of the delegation included Japan’s Vice Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka, and Fumihiko Kobayashi, Chairman of the Japan–Sri Lanka Business Co-operation Committee, along with senior government and industry representatives. Senior Economic Adviser to the President Duminda Hulangamuwa, K.A. Vimalenthirarajah, Secretary to the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development, and Mangala Wijesinghe, Chairman and CEO of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), were also present. The Japanese delegation featured Fumihiko Kobayashi, Akio Isomata, Takehiko Matsuo, Masakatsu Murotani, Toshiyuki Shimano, Toyokazu Nagamune, Akiko Okumura, Tadashi Katori, Eranga Dilshan, Kensuke Kubota, Shusaku Izumi, Masazumi Nishizawa, Hiromi Sumi, Hiroki Oi, and Kenji Kuronuma.
