The Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court has allowed the police to hold and question two brothers who were arrested in relation to the double murder in Akuregoda until tomorrow, the 18th. The suspects were apprehended in Kottawa by officers from the Western Province South Crimes Range for allegedly helping in the murder of a lawyer and his wife in Akuregoda. The brothers were brought before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court today, the 17th. Meanwhile, CCTV footage has been released to the media, showing the two brothers supposedly giving firearms to the gunmen waiting near a supermarket in Akuregoda. The video captures one of the brothers arriving in a car, taking a package from it, and passing it to the car where the gunmen were waiting. Afterward, they drove away towards Hokandara, according to police reports. At the same time, the targeted lawyer was seen driving on the same road, and police stated that the arrested brothers had alerted the gunmen about his presence. Last Friday, the 13th, a lawyer and his wife were shot dead in the parking lot of a supermarket in Thalangama, Akuregoda. Following this tragic event, 12 police teams were assigned to investigate under the direction of the Inspector General of Police.
