The Anunayake of the Asgiri Chapter, Most Venerable Narampanawa Ananda Thero, urged members of the Buddhist clergy to remain calm in response to certain criticisms from society. He highlighted that instead of getting upset, it is wiser to stay silent, as the truth will eventually come to light. The Thero shared these thoughts during a ceremony to honor his contributions at the historic Muthiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya in Badulla. In his address, Most Venerable Narampanawa Ananda Thero pointed out that many people in Sri Lanka still value and respect the teachings of Buddhism, and this faith will not diminish. He also mentioned that despite the current social challenges, events recognizing the efforts of Buddhist monks continue to take place, although some face criticism. “It is my belief that the Maha Sangha should not react with anger to these issues. Instead, it is better to respond calmly. Right now, staying silent is the most appropriate action,” Narampanawa Ananda Thero said. He noted that nearly 90 percent of Sri Lanka's population is Buddhist, and their honor for the Triple Gem remains strong. The Thero emphasized that the connection between the lay community and the clergy is meaningful and will continue into the future.
