Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya emphasized that the government aims to create strong human resources to bring about significant change in Sri Lanka. She highlighted that providing children with quality education is a top priority for the government. These comments were made during her visit to the Hambantota District on the 12th, as reported by the Prime Minister’s Media Division. While touring the Beliatta Ruhunu Vijayaba National School and its primary section, she examined the new workbooks for Grade One students set to be introduced in 2026. She also looked into the core curriculum's progress and classroom activities. During a meeting with teachers, the Prime Minister acknowledged their important role in building a better society. She mentioned that the government has begun steps to create an Education Council, which will aim to improve teacher professionalism and ensure quality education. The Prime Minister stated that one of the main goals of the government is to provide equal opportunities for all children and to reduce differences in school infrastructure. Later, she visited Weeraketiya Rajapaksha Primary School, where she observed Grade One classrooms applying new educational reforms and reviewed teaching methods. She also interacted warmly with the students. Additionally, she met with teachers from Weeraketiya Central College and its primary section. They discussed the challenges involved in conducting Advanced Level (A/L) classes and ways to keep A/L students in the school system. Her visit continued at Hambantota Lunama Dutugemunu Maha Vidyalaya, where she noted the low number of students, despite the school having adequate facilities.
