Sri Lanka Police are launching a nationwide effort to completely eliminate the rising issue of drug trafficking in the country. The Police Media Division has stated that they are taking extensive steps in accordance with instructions from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to enhance drug prevention initiatives. The main goals of this effort are to lower the supply of illegal drugs, decrease the demand for these substances, help people struggling with addiction, and prevent substance misuse. The statement highlighted that the Sri Lanka Police has been able to collect important information by involving and empowering local communities in the battle against drugs. With this information, police officers work around the clock to conduct successful drug raids, arrest those involved in crimes, and reduce criminal activity, ensuring the public can feel safe and secure. The Sri Lanka Police are also carrying out special operations, targeted raids, setting up mobile roadblocks, and inspecting vehicles and people to further protect the community. These actions have reportedly produced significant positive outcomes recently, according to the statement. The Police Headquarters stressed that it is every citizen's duty and civic responsibility to assist during lawful inspections by police officers and urged the public to offer their full support. Additionally, the statement mentioned that any suspicious behavior from individuals or vehicles, or not following lawful police orders, could raise concerns about involvement in crime, drug activities, or other illegal actions. Therefore, the Sri Lanka Police called on everyone to act as responsible citizens and cooperate fully with officers in carrying out their responsibilities.
