The Trincomalee High Court has granted bail to four Buddhist monks, including Ven. Balangoda Kassapa Thero, along with six other individuals. On February 9, the Trincomalee Magistrate had ordered the ten suspects, including Ven. Kassapa, to be remanded until today, February 11. They were arrested for placing a Buddha statue at the Trincomalee Bodhiraja Viharaya on November 16, 2025, which violated coastal conservation laws. The Department of Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management filed a case, claiming that an unauthorized structure was built and a Buddha statue was placed in the coastal protection zone of Trincomalee town.
