Allrounder Wanindu Hasaranga will miss the 2026 T20 World Cup due to a hamstring injury he sustained during the opening match against Ireland on Sunday. He managed to complete his four-over spell, taking 3 wickets for 25 runs, which helped slow down Ireland’s chase of 164 runs. However, he will not participate in the rest of the tournament. An MRI scan conducted on Monday confirmed a significant tear in his left hamstring, and a specialist in the UK reviewed the results before he was officially ruled out. Dushan Hemantha, another legspin allrounder, is expected to take Hasaranga's place in the squad. Sri Lanka's next group match is set for February 12 against Oman in Pallekele, followed by a game against Australia on February 16 in Pallekele, and then they will face Zimbabwe in Colombo (RPS) on February 19.
