Electricity trade unions in Sri Lanka have issued a warning that they will take action without notice if the date for the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) liquidation is published in the Gazette without addressing their concerns. A letter from 24 CEB trade unions was sent to the Minister of Energy regarding this issue. Earlier, on January 12, the unions had submitted a letter with eight demands aimed at protecting the rights of CEB employees. Since they have not received a favorable reply, the unions followed up with another letter to the Minister yesterday (September 9), restating their requests. The unions expressed that the lack of acceptable solutions from the authorities leaves them no choice but to consider trade union action to meet their demands. The letter also mentioned that if the liquidation date of the CEB is announced in the Gazette without addressing these demands, the 24 trade unions, including the Engineering Association, will begin strict actions without prior notice.
