Last evening (26), a vehicle inspection was held in Ginigathhena town, led by the Nuwara Eliya District Chief Motor Traffic Inspector and local police. During this operation, a total of 65 vehicles were checked, which included buses from the Sri Lanka Transport Board and private bus services. Officers from the Ginigathhena Police Traffic Division reported that 12 vehicles were temporarily taken out of service for 14 days due to safety issues. The inspection involved collaboration between the Ginigathhena Police Traffic Division, the Nuwara Eliya District Chief Motor Traffic Inspector, and the Hatton Police Division Traffic Unit. Inspectors found problems with the revenue licenses of 12 vehicles, which included private buses, six lorries, and a fuel transportation truck. These vehicles were stopped because they had been modified, had dangerous parts added, or had faulty brake systems. Police indicated that the owners of the suspended vehicles must fix the issues and have the vehicles rechecked under the supervision of the Motor Traffic Inspector before they can be used again.
