The Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Association has issued a warning that they may take trade union action if current issues are not resolved quickly. In their announcement, the association pointed out that there are ongoing problems in the Railway Department's administration that are causing serious difficulties for both passengers and railway workers. They noted that the procedures for hiring and promoting station masters have been delayed repeatedly. This has hurt the efficiency of station masters and decreased the motivation of railway staff, according to the association. Moreover, the association criticized the Railway Department's decision to cut the disaster relief allowance for railway employees to Rs. 250,000, even though the government raised the allowance for state employees to Rs. 400,000. They view this reduction as a significant concern. The statement stressed that this action undermines a government decision and is a serious injustice to railway workers, prompting the association to prepare a strong protest. Additionally, the Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Association highlighted issues like poor train schedules, ineffective timetables, and operational problems that have made it more challenging for passengers. They emphasized that the ongoing difficulties are directly linked to the administration of the department.
