Sajith Premadasa, the Leader of the Opposition, has promised to fully support the proper and effective execution of educational reforms. He pointed out that many children in Sri Lanka have suffered because the proposed reforms for Grade 6 have not been put into action. While the government has tried to blame the opposition for delaying these reforms, Premadasa stressed that it is actually the current government, led by the President, that has stopped their implementation. He mentioned that hundreds of thousands of parents and students were looking forward to the Grade 6 reforms, but their hopes have been dashed by the government's choice to postpone them. Premadasa also emphasized that these reforms should be carried out this year, after discussions with education experts and the removal of unsuitable material. He called on the government to work with skilled professionals in the education field to make informed and progressive decisions. The Opposition Leader reiterated that if a formal discussion takes place on this issue, the opposition is ready to share its opinions and cooperate to ensure the effective implementation of the planned educational reforms.
