During a special operation across Sri Lanka on October 24, a total of 571 people were arrested on suspicion of engaging in criminal activities, including offenses related to illegal liquor and drugs. The Police Media Division reported that 29,659 individuals were checked during this operation. Out of those, police identified 11 people who were directly involved in criminal activities. Additionally, 425 suspects with outstanding warrants were taken into custody. The operation led to the arrest of 443 drivers for being under the influence of alcohol, along with 79 reckless drivers and 4,524 others who committed various traffic violations. According to police, these island-wide operations aim to catch drug traffickers of all sizes, as well as individuals involved in criminal acts and those possessing illegal guns.
