Showers are expected in several areas of Sri Lanka today, particularly in the Northern, North-central, and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Matale and Nuwara-Eliya districts starting this evening (23), according to the Department of Meteorology. Light rain may also occur in the Uva and Northwestern provinces. Additionally, some places elsewhere might experience showers or thundershowers later in the evening or at night. There is a chance of ground frost in certain areas of the Nuwara-Eliya district during the early morning hours. Misty weather is anticipated in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northwestern, and Uva provinces, along with the Galle and Matara districts in the early morning. In the sea areas off the coast from Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankasanthurai, showers or thundershowers are likely. Winds will blow from the north-east to the north, with speeds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph. However, wind speeds may occasionally reach up to 45 kmph in the sea areas off the coast from Mannar to Galle via Colombo. The Meteorological Department has indicated that the sea conditions in this coastal area will be fairly rough at times.
