The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has started a 48-hour token strike to address several issues. This strike is affecting patients as medical services at government hospitals in Sri Lanka have been disrupted. However, the GMOA has made it clear that services will continue at maternity and children’s hospitals, kidney hospitals, cancer hospitals, tri-forces hospitals, and the National Institute of Mental Health. The association explained that the strike is a response to the Health Ministry's failure to uphold agreements aimed at resolving problems faced by medical officers and protecting the free healthcare system.
