The Minister of Transport, Bimal Rathnayake, announced that strict legal actions will be taken against drivers who operate vehicles while under the influence of narcotics, not just alcohol. Speaking in Parliament today, October 8, he explained that these measures will start immediately. Previously, it was hard to enforce laws against such drivers due to a lack of regulations. Minister Rathnayake also mentioned that they can use mobile labs that can detect up to 12 different narcotic substances in just three to four minutes. He added that the results of these tests can be printed on the spot for the drivers.
