A depression in the Bay of Bengal is expected to reach Sri Lanka tomorrow, September 9, between 5:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., according to Athula Karunanayake, the Director General of the Department of Meteorology. During a media briefing held at the Department of Government Information, Karunanayake mentioned that the depression is currently situated about 350 kilometers from Pottuvil. He added that this weather system is gradually forming into a deep depression and is projected to enter Sri Lanka between Kalmunai and Hambantota. As a result, heavy rainfall and strong winds are anticipated in numerous parts of the country, particularly in the Uva and Eastern provinces. The Director General also indicated that, based on current information, it is unlikely that this depression will develop into a cyclone.
