Five hundred tablet devices have been given to traffic police officers in the Western Province of Sri Lanka. These tablets will help them access the improved Sri Lanka Police Road Accident Data Management System and check the new digital insurance e-card. The current plastic insurance cards that insurance companies provide to vehicle owners will soon be replaced, according to the Sri Lanka Police. They are introducing a permanent digital insurance card, created with help from the Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (IRCSL). A special awareness event was held by the Ministry of Public Security together with the IRCSL to inform police officers who check insurance on the road. Senior police officials, including Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya, also attended. The event took place at the auditorium of the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs. Key attendees included Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Public Security Ananda Wijepala, Deputy Minister Sunil Watagala, and Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security Ravi Seneviratne. Dr. Ajith Ravindra de Mel, the Chairman of the Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, gave the main speech. He explained the goals and benefits of the new digital insurance system. Dr. de Mel pointed out that the digital insurance card would help solve many long-standing problems in the insurance sector. These include reducing environmental waste from disposing of plastic cards each year, cutting down the high costs of making physical cards, and addressing other issues faced by the industry.
