LNP – SL to get 6,500 job opportunities from South Korea this year: Minister

Sri Lanka has received a quota of 6,500 job opportunities in South Korea this year, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) said.

Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara said a total of 5,047 job opportunities had been given last year. As a result, job opportunities received this year are up 28.79% over last year.

This year, the country received 1,453 more job opportunities this year than last year, and this was the highest number of job opportunities received from South Korea in its history. For these 6,500 jobs, 14,588 applicants have been given the opportunity to stay on the waiting list. “12,189 in the manufacturing sector, 2,149 in the fisheries sector, and 250 in the construction sector,” he said.

Last year, there was a job quota of 5,047, the minister said. According to the continuous requests made by Minister Nanayakkara from the Korean Human Resources Department, 6,639 workers were able to be dispatched.

He also expressed confidence that it would be possible to send a group of workers who will exceed the job quota received this year.

SL workers in S Korea are well paid and their remunerations are covered by Korean labour laws. Many of these workers are earning more than what their counterparts are earning in some western countries.
