Sri Lanka Muslim clerics` organization the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) says it would accept a solution for the Halal certification issue if proposed by a parliamentary select committee (PSC).

The ACJU has said that a PSC appointed to address the dispute over the issuing of halal certificates should provide a solution to the current crisis.

Media spokesperson for the ACJU, Ashshek Fazil M. Farook has said that a PSC decision would be based on the laws of the country and measures will be taken following a decision by the PSC.

According to Farook, the ACJU would stop issuing Halal certificates if the PSC decides to abolish the certification process.

Earlier the government refused to assume the responsibility to issue Halal certification of food products saying is not wise for a government to interfere in activities connected with a religion.

Following the ultimatum issued by the Buddhist extremist group, Bodu Bala Sena to remove all Halal products by March 31and suspend issuing certificates, the Muslim clerics` organization appealed to the government to take over the responsibility in administering Halal certificates.

Meanwhile, the committee appointed by the President to study the issue is yet to present its report.
