Lankan News Replies

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has revealed his hand, albeit unwittingly. He has finally dropped the fig leaf of impartiality. When he appointed an advisory panel on Sri Lanka, he claimed that it would be independent. But, the UN has officially announced that the panel is under the umbrella of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Navanethem Pillay, whose anti-Sri Lankan stance is only too well known. She was part of the diplomatic team that tried to save Prabhakaran trapped in the Vanni and responsible for a human rights witch hunt against Sri Lanka in Geneva last year. And the person who has been handpicked as the head of the staff of the expert panel is a trusted lieutenant of Pillay! Richard Bennett is his name. He had been the Representative of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Nepal until his latest appointment.

Now, the UNSG`s game plan is patently clear. He could not have found a more anti-Sri Lankan team for his witch hunt! As we pointed out the other day, the chairman of Moon`s Kangaroo Trial, Marzuki Darusman was part of the International Independent Group of Eminent Persons (IIGEP) involved in a presidential commission that probed some alleged violations of human rights in Sri Lanka. These eminent persons had a row with the government and left in a huff. Darusman is, therefore, prejudiced against this country. Steven R. Ratner is of a similar mindset. He, in a book co-authored with Jason S. Abrams, Accountability for Human rights: Atrocities in International Law-Beyond the Nuremberg Legacy, advocates that the ban on apartheid be invoked in relation to some countries including Sri Lanka, which he refers to by innuendo. The other member of the panel, Yasmin Sooka, a former Truth Commission member, is the executive director of the Foundation for Human Rights (FHR) in South Africa. Her outfit is heavily dependent on EU funds for survival. The EU has allocated a whopping 25 million Euros for one of its programmes. She is, therefore, beholden to the EU, which is leading a war crimes campaign against Sri Lanka from the front.

The UN spokesman has said the stipulated four-month clock has not yet begun for the panel to conclude its inquiry and its work is still at a preliminary level. But, any person with an iota of common sense will see that the UNSG and his panel members are wasting their time and UN funds by taking so long to complete their probe. We have reason to believe, going by the way Moon, Pillay and their political bosses in the western bloc have prejudged Sri Lanka, that the panel already has the report ready and all that remains to be done to give it legitimacy and respectability is to flesh it out with some doctored data to be purportedly garnered through interviews with some Captains of the Victim Industry and LTTE lobbyists masquerading as human rights activists.

The Moon Panel has all the trappings of the court that tried Saddam Hussein in Iraq. Even before the trial began, cynics say, Washington had sent a tailor-made hangman`s noose for its erstwhile partner in crime, Hussein. The rest is history.

What is really disturbing is not the plot being hatched by a section of the UN against this country but the undue delay on the part of the NAM in coming down on the UNSG and others responsible for it. For, if a handful of western governments notorious for using terrorism as an instrument to further their geo-political interests are allowed to use the UNSG and some key UN officials as hired guns to victimise a small member state, which has had the courage to crush terrorism in defiance of them, the UN will end up being a bigger threat to global peace than mindless terrorism. And no country will be safe unless it has the nuclear capability or is subservient to the western bloc.

It is time the NAM lived up to its raison d` tre and took up the cudgels for the beleaguered Sri Lanka. And fast!

This is really very scary. The UN has now become a cat's pow of some of the Western countries to subjugate Sri Lanka to the whims and fancies of their ideology and Neocolonialism. Ban Ki-Moon is merely a puppet.

For a country that was able to withstand the World's most ruthless terrorist group for three decades without giving in to it's pressure and the pressure from the West and finally annihilate the tiger head to toe, would it be a formidable task taking on the western puppet Ban Ki Moon and his pack of mangy mongrels??????

The Moon Panel has all the trappings of the court that tried Saddam Hussein in Iraq

Is it ignorant, obsession or paranoia?

It is clearly spelled out that the UN Panel is just an advisory panel that too to the UN SG and has nothing to do with investigation or judicial.

All the officers involved in this panel are tested elsewhere as being neutral and no other country raised any objection of their impartiality. Only concern of the SL govt and their supporters can only be that the truth might be dug out and that may lead to more serious and dangerous investigations to the Rajapakse brothers specially who interferes with all the other departments to carry out vendetta and racist prejudices. The offenders must be punished and nobody should not Karma taking its course.

I think that Ban ki moon is destroying the good image of UN. Un is an was a very important organization for every country. the role of the UN in developing countries should be appreciated. But now in the name of UN , Ban is playing a totally different role which has been stipulated in UN conventions. He has gone out of his area and targeted on unnecessary things. The UN was established to have a peaceful world without rerrorism. But now Ban is trying to safeguard terroristm. Really they should appreciate the defeat of terrorisn in sri lanka and it was a big threat not only to Sri Lanka but to other countries. Everyone Knows the nature of LTTE except LTTEers. It is a ruthless terrorist team.

why ban ki moon is not intersted in HR violations during the 30 years Done by LTTE.
See the link how LTTE kills innocent civilians at Anuradhapura temple and Bo tree(this was recorded and issued by the LTTE at the time of tradedy to show to the world how strong they are.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6GRkoSG7Fk&NR=1

The best thing is to remove Ban ki moon and protect the good image of the UN. Otherwise he will destroy the UN as well as world peace.

Human rights is an integral part of international law and war crimes is tried by the UN Court (ICJ). THere is a big arm of UN called UNHCR devoted to human rights.

UN played a big part in defeating terrorism in Sri Lanka. Ban was urged to intervene in Sri Lanka to stop the war but he resisted those attempts, and after the war and Ban and SL president agreed to start rehabilitation, resettlement of IDP's and 'address allegations of laws-of-war violations'. One year later the government has failed to honor that promise, which necessitated the appointment of the panel to advise him and not to investigate or pass judgement. Still 70,000 IDP's are in the camps.

why ban ki moon is not intersted in HR violations during the 30 years Done by LTTE.

Ban was elected UN SG in October 2006 and not 30 years ago. In SL minorities have been peacefully protesting against the Sinhala ONLY Act since 1956 - 25 years peacefully and 25 years violently-. For the first 25 years successive SL governments used communal riots to control protests. In 1956, 1958, 1977 , 1982 and 1983 thousands of Tamils were killed, their properties destroyed and cultural centres were burnt down - they were terrorism carried out by govt ministers and supporters.

Terrorist Prabakaran took up arms against these govt excesses. No one stopped the govt or LTTE vioences.

AND... people like Saleemtariq supported the LTTE and its extremist, racist, seperatist terror policies and also supported the 'terrorist Prabhakaran' the leader and masterind behind the LTTE, fully well knowing the mayhem they caused to sinhalese, tamils and muslims living in Sri Lanka.

Just because Saleemtariq refers to the megalamaniacal killer Prabhakaran as 'terrorist Prabhakaran' its just a gimmick to fool everyone to show he does not support Prabhakaran, similar to his adopting the forum ID 'Saleemtariq' to show he is not a tamil!!

Saleemtariq seems to feel that the murderous attrocities committed by the LTTE may not be wrong. This is what comes out of Saleemtariq's warped and distorted mind

Moreover if what the LTTE did was wrong

No one stopped the govt or LTTE violences

It was the Govt that stopped the LTTE violence by speaking to the terrorists in the ONLY language the terrorists understood - TERROR.

The LTTE did not understand the language of humans though many a government strived hard to speak to them in the language of humans. As a LAST resort the govt spoke to the LTTE in the language of the terrorists for people such as Saleemtariq to understand.

This is where our Foreign Ministry failed miserably. Surely, the Ministry should have known how the UN is being manipulated by interested parties and should have been aware of the behind-the-scene attempts by the LTTE-friendly groups to put Sri Lanka in the dock.

We had the worst Foreign Minster in Bogols whose only interest was in dining and wining with his family in the most expensive hotels in the world and had no clue as to what was going on. Those officials appointed to look after the countries interests in the UN and other important Capitals were as indifferent as the useless Minister.

While Bogols was literally playing 'pandu' with Foreign relations, the President, for reasons known only to himself, chose to turn a blind eye. Now the country has to face the consequences.

The excellent work done by Kadirgamar has all been nullified by the nincompoop Bogols, thanks to the patronage of the President.
The chickens seem to be coming home to roost.

Sadly, the Island is barking up the wrong tree by blaming ONLY the UN when Bogols and the President are more culpable.

ISrael killed even one Canadian who Was watching what ISrael was doing to LEbanon. ISrael bobmed the watch Tower and killed those TWO UN Observers.

that happened even UN had informed ISrael in advance.

Nothing happened to that incidence.

Recently, One woman who left UN, accused Bank Ki Moon as corrupt and another guy had accused him as Backbone less because he does not know what is happening in the Security Council

So, Just don't dance to the rhythem of Ban Ki Moon.

Show him the middle finger.

SriLanka (soldiers) killed 17 Workers of the French Branch of International Aid Agency.
In a searing indictment of the Sri Lankan government, Swedish-led cease-fire monitors on Wednesday accused government security forces of killing 17 aid workers

What did happen, International Independent Group of Eminent Persons (IIGEP) was appointed by the president to probe the crimes but Attorney General's Office put hurdles and IIGEP went the same way as the 4-year old APRC.
