The United National Party (UNP) had been pointing out to the President for a long time that most of the Ministers in the former Cabinet were corrupt. But he did not listen. However, this time the President has changed the Ministries as he has realized what the UNP had stated, said Gayantha Karunatilleke.
Briefing the media this morning (April 26) at the Opposition Leader s office, UNP media spokesman Gayantha Karunatilleke said that the offering of different ministries to the United People s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) members who had held ministerial posts in the earlier Cabinet amply proves that President Mahinda Rajapaksa had accepted the UNP s earlier accusations claiming most of the then Ministers were corrupt.
The government has been unable to appoint capable persons to some of the ministries and the President has retained them under him. Likewise, a male has been appointed as the Minister of Women s Affairs. This shows the incompetence of the new government, Gayantha Karunatilleke said.
However, Mr. Karunatilleke said, the present Cabinet has been named not to fulfill the aspirations of the masses but to cater to the aspirations of certain government members.
