Several senior members of Sri Lanka Muslim congress (SLMC) have asked the leadership that the party should cooperate with the government during the next six years say internal sources of the SLMC.
Despite a discussion had been arranged yesterday (16th) in Colombo to come to a decision regarding this, it had to be postponed due to absence of the Leader of SLMC Rauff Hakeem who was busy participating in election campaigning at Nawalapitiya. Hence the representatives have decided to take a decision after the 20th.
A senior spokesman of the SLMC said the party was prepared to support the government on two special matters and accordingly the party would support the government to implement the 13th amendment fully for a devolution of power and for a rapid and parallel development throughout the island.
He said the party will decide after the 20th how it would support the government and whether they would accept ministerial portfolios. He said party leader Rauff Hakeem would announce the party decision after the 20th. SLMC has already received 5 Parliamentary seats without counting the seats it would get from the national list he added.
