shocking reports emerges from Rameswaram that the Sri Lankan fishermen allegedly bomb-attacked Indian fishermen and their mechanized fishing trawler sunk at mid-sea, off the controversial Katchatheevu island.
Four Indian fishermen had a miraculous escape, according to the report. This triggered a tense situation in the island town of Rameswaram on Tuesday
According to the official sources, the Indian fishing trawler bearing registration number TN 10 MSP 263 had ventured into the sea from Rameswaram Jetty on Monday night for fishing.
The crew, namely Stephen (38), Alex (34), Prakash (22) and Mekkellen (21), while fishing near Katchatheevu island, was intercepted by a Sri Lankan fishing boat in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The Sri Lankan fishermen hurled a bomb that might either be a country made bomb or petrol bomb on the Indian fishing trawler.
The bomb exploded and fire engulfed the fishing trawler.
All the four Indian fishermen jumped into the sea for safety. The fishing trawler valued at Rs Ten lakh, sunk in the sea, few minutes after the attack.
The fishermen were later rescued by another Indian fishing trawler, which brought them to the Rameswaram shores this morning.
The attack on Indian fishing trawler had triggered a tense situation in Rameswaram Island among the fishing folk.
A large number of policemen were deployed in the sensitive fishing hamlets to prevent any untoward incidents.
