Senior Presidential Advisor and UPFA Gampaha District Group Leader at the upcoming General Election, Basil Rajapaksa assured that the Gampaha District would be made a centre of active services and knowledge.
Speaking at a series of meetings with professionals who included teachers, lawyers and scholars on Tuesday, Basil Rajapaksa said that under the Mahinda Chinthanaya Idiri Dekma program, plans are under way to make Sri Lanka a hub of air, naval, trade, power and energy and knowledge based activities and added that the Gampaha District would be made the centre of air and knowledge activities under the scheme.
This cordial meeting with the scholars was held to express their support and ensure the UPFA groups victory at the Parliamentary Election in the Gampaha District.
The progressive minded people of the Gampaha District always supported and accepted the programs which were useful to the country. They ensured a handsome majority to the President at the Presidential Election held recently.
Today, President Mahinda Rajapaksa has created a healthy environment for us to visit Nagadeepaya, Seruwawila and other important places we never thought of being fortunate enough to get this opportunity in such a short time. Our religious leaders, Maha Sangha, artists, working people, various professionals and above all, the people of this country supported our war efforts and relish in our victory , he said.
Senior Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa said under the Mahinda Chinthanaya, people expected us to spread gravel onto the roads. However, today there are concreted roads. Instead of bridges, we have overhead bridges today. People never expected this kind of a vast development in the country.
We gave fertiliser at Rs. 350 per bag to develop the agriculture sector. This was against the advise of the World Bank.
The same way we provided electricity to rural folk. Now we have to work hard for the next six years, so that we can make this country a model in Asia. In this task, I hope Gampaha District will be able to play a big role, he said.
Ministers Felix Perera, Mervin Silva, Lasantha Alagiyawanna, WPC Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga were also present at the occasion.
