State Revenue and Deputy Finance Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya yesterday told Parliament that the Government was preparing to present the Budget in Parliament on schedule.
The Appropriation Bill would be presented before the Houses in October and the second reading of the budget will take place in November and the dates too had been fixed, he said.
However, the Minister did not confirm or deny media reports that there was a move to bring a vote on account instead of a full Budget ahead of the general election next year.
`There are various proposals but the government had already allocated dates for the debate on the Budget proposals, he said.
Minister Siyambalapitiya was responding to a question raised by UNP Colombo District MP Ravi Karunanayake.Karunanayake said that there were media reports that the government was planning to bring about a vote-on-account instead of a full budget in view of a general election next year, and queried whether reports were true or false.
