The UNP said yesterday that goon squads attacked three of its Southern Provincial Council Election offices in Hambantota, including one yesterday.
Hambantota District UNP MP, Sajith Premadasa told a news conference in Colombo, that their offices in Dehigalanda, Horewala and Athpitiya had been attacked and damaged.
He, said that what was happening in the run up to the Southern Provincial Council Poll, was a continuation of the violence that was directed at the UNP, during other provincial elections held recently.
Asked, as to who he suspects was responsible for the damages caused, Premadasa said that the government was responsible for conducting a free and fair poll.
The obvious conclusion, was that the government has failed in its duty of providing security to opposition political parties and candidates contesting the SPC Election, he said.
