Sri Lanka has a conducive environment for investment and more Japanese investors are welcome to the country. The Government will provide the infrastructure facilities and has embarked on a project to upgrade the available facilities, Minister of Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said at an interactive discussion with the Japanese Ambassador and a Japanese business delegation yesterday in Colombo.
Among the matters discussed were issues related to VAT refunds, labour legislation, road maintenance, improvement of transport infrastructure and the supply of electricity.
`Labour laws of Sri Lanka are very much friendly to workers, which are appreciated from the aspect of workers` protection. However, they often seriously hinder efficiency in production and administration. We believe that some flexibility or amendments of the labour laws will help to maintain the efficiency of production and management while protecting workers` rights,` the delegates said.
The Japanese delegation included Japanese Ambassador Kunio Takahashi, officials from Japanese Embassy, Chairman of the Japanese Commerce and Industry Association Tadashi Komenoi and a high-powered Japanese business leaders.
