| | Dhoni, Harbhajan Buy Hummers From Sri Lanka Saturday, 1 August 2009 - 6:57 PM SL Time | | | Indian Cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and spinner Harbhajan Singh have added brand new `Hummers` to their collection of flashy vehicles and it has receive huge publicity in India but only a few people know that the two cricket stars bought them from Sri Lanka.
Sri Lankan company Autogroup International, which is the world leader in Hummer conversions, sold the two vehicles and the company`s director Suresh Edirisinghe has just returned from India after delivering the two vehicles.
Hummer made by America`s General Motors are designed for the American market and originally come out of the factory as Left-hand-drive vehicles, but the Sri Lankan company converts them into right-hand drive vehicles to be used in other countries including Australia.
Dhoni`s vehicle which is of silver colour and Harbhajan`s black Hummer were both converted in Sri Lanka, after the two cricketers who were in Sri Lanka earlier this year for a five-match ODI series visited the Autogroup International facility in Kirimandala Mawatha, Narahenpita, and ordered their vehicles.
They were impressed with our company said Edirisinghe, who added that Sri Lankan spin bowler Muttiah Muralitharan had recommended the company to the two Indian players.
A Hummer costs around 25 million Sri Lankan Rupees in India with taxes.
The 2009 Hummer H2 will be the crown jewel among Dhoni`s collection that includes Toyota Corolla, Scorpio, Mitsubishi Pajero, Harley Davidson, Yamaha 650cc sports bike, Kawasaki Ninja and other two-wheelers.
Accompanied by teammate and friend RP Singh and other relatives, Dhoni had driven home his Hummer from Delhi via Lucknow on Thursday evening.
He had stayed in Lucknow for a day, before hitting the road to reach Ranchi.

There have been a few hummers here for quite a few years. One of them, a orange and black one I've seen quite a few times around the wellawatte area. Not many though, maybe less than 10.
What i find funny is,
Dhoni's collection that includes
Toyota Corolla
Scorpio
lol! otherwise he's got a good taste, especially the Kawasaki Ninja! |

Ken...............Aravinda might be one of the owners!
Surprisingly, Sachin who loves cars, has not gone for a hummer, maybe he's the next Indian purchaser. |

Zaha,

well, it doesnt suit aravinda but you can never count him out. This one i think belongs to a businessman renown for shady deals :D
A Hummer probably spews out more Co2 than one of those Ashok Leyland steel boxes that people use as buses, so its good to see Sachin choosing not to own one!
I've seen one of the Aussie players driving one around Melbourne, i think it was Shane Watson.

True, the size is a major factor when trying to navigate those tiny roads!
Its just yet another method of showing off your wealth, becasue its not practical to own such a gas guzzler, even in western countries, let alone SL. |
