St Peter`s College Bambalapitiya and St. Joseph`s Balika Vidyalaya, Kegalle with 84 and 67 points respectively carried away the Sir John Tarbat Challenge Trophies on offer for the Junior National Athletic Championships conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Athletic Association at the Albert F. Peiris Stadium in Wennappuwa over the week end. A total of seven meet records were set up during the three days of activity.
Chandimal Mudalige (Royal College who threw the discus to a distance of 38.23m was declared as the Best Junior Athlete, while Nirma Sandaratne Lyceum International Schools was awarded the Best Girls Athlete Trophy for her achievement in the 200m for which she clocked 26. 3 secs.
W.M.S. Wasala of Dambulla National School who won the half Marathon was awarded the K. A. Karunaratne Challenge trophy on offer for the long distance running, while for the same event in the girls section A.A.M. Lakmali received the Thamara Padmini Trophy.
The three day of activity was well arranged and good spectator turn out too was witnessed. The sponsors for the event was Nestle Lanka Limited the distributors of `Milo`.
